BASTI

In Ayurvda treatment the role of Panchkarma and specially basti has a very important role in the treatment of various diseases. Its action is from head to toe, basti  is the best treatment for all the vata diseases.

Basti involves administrating medicated substances into the rectum to directly address and balance vata dosha, while also helping with pitta and kapha imbalances. It is designed to detoxify the body, relieve persistent discomfort and promote deep nourishment, making it ideal for those seeking lasting relief and holistic wellness.

CLASSIFICATION OF BASTI

ADHISHTAN BHEDA ( ROUTE OF ADMINISTRATION)

  • Pakwashaya gata basti ( Ano rectal)
  • Mutrashaya gata basti ( Urethro- vesical)
  • Garbhashay gata basti ( Uterine)
  • Vranagat basti ( Wound/ Abscess)

DRAVYA BHEDA ( DECOCTION)

  • Niruha basti ( mostly decoction is used)
  • Anuvasan ( oil)

  • As per oil  quantity it again divided in to 3 types

    • Sneha bast = 240 ml
    • Anuvasan basti = 120 ml
    • Matra basti = 60 ml

SANKHYA BHEDA ( ACCORDING TO NUMBER)

  •  Yog basti = 8
  •  Kal  basti = 16
  •  Karma basti = 30

SPECIAL TYPES OF BASTI

  •  Shodhan ( Purifying)
  •  Bruhan ( Nourishing)
  •  Lekhan ( Scraping/ Reducing)

CONTRA- INDICATION FOR BASTI

  • Diarrhea
  • Pregnancy
  • Menstruation
  • Extreme weakness and debility
  • Rectum bleeding ( Except piccha basti)

DIFFERENT TYPES OF BASTI AND THERE INDICATION

  • Madhutailik basti = Prameha, Arsha, Gulma, Skin disease, Vat rog
  • Vaitarana basti = Rhumatism, Flatulance, Abdominal pain, Sciatica
  • Piccha basti = Grahani, Amoebiasis, Bacillary dysentery
  • Ksheer basti = All type of pittas vyadhi, Amlapitta, Peptic ulcer, Duodenal ulcer
  • Lekhan basti = Obesity
  • Uttar basti = Infertility, Amenorrhea, Menorrhagia, Menstrual disorders
  • Shitta pittahar basti = Vat and pitta disorders
  • Mutra- kriccha basti = Dysuria and urine related problem
  • Chakshushya basti Eye disease
  • Krimighna basti = Worms infestaion
